Dobson and Surrrey Ltd recognises that concern for the environment is an integral and fundamental
part of the business.
We are aware of the impact of our day‐to‐day operations on the environment and we balance the need to achieve our business aims with an effort towards a sustainable environmental improvement, which is measured and monitored on a regular basis.
The Environmental aspects of our processes and activities are effectively managed in order to protect the health and safety of employees, customers and the public whilst contributing to the future well being of the environment.
We are committed to minimising the impact of our operations on the environment by means of a programme of continuous improvement and in particular:
Set clear objectives and targets to ensure continual improvement of the company’s environmental performance and management systems
Conduct our operations in compliance with all relevant environmental legislation, with The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Amendment) Regulations 2009 and The Building Regulations Part L (Conservation of Fuel and Power) being of particular importance to our Company’s operations;
Show a continual commitment to the prevention of pollution through the use of operational controls, training and risk assessment;
Make efficient use of resources, with a commitment to the Waste Management Hierarchy of;
Reduce ‐ since all waste disposal options have some impact on the environment, the only way to avoid impact is not to produce waste in the first place. We therefore endeavour to reduce waste via judicious purchasing methods
Reuse ‐ before discarding any item, it will be checked to see if it can be reused within the scope of the works being carried out as opposed to automatically providing a replacement
Recycle ‐ materials are segregated to ensure the maximum amount of materials can be recycled when waste is being disposed of
In 2016 and in conjunction with Dexreco Recycling, we recycled a total of 1.6 tonnes of light fittings and fluorescent tubes alone. It is anticipated that this will more than double over the coming year
Disposal ‐ we ensure that all items are suitably screened to confirm that they could not have been either reused or recycled. Any item which is to be disposed of will be done in accordance with the relevant legislation applicable to the item in question.
Continually aim to minimise energy consumption through efficient energy management;
Reduce wherever practicable the level of uncontrolled atmospheric emissions
To ensure that we are kept up to date with the relevant legislation covering the environmental aspects of our operations, we use the Environment Agency's Netregs website.
We believe that this tool is vital in ensuring ongoing improvement to our environmental performance.
